Sheila Nakitende
Multidisciplinary Artist
Sheila Nakitende (b 1983) is a multi-disciplinary artist and researcher living and working in Uganda Kampala. She graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Fine Art and Design from Makerere University in 2005. Nakitende experimented with painting before exploring installation, performance and sculpture. Her artistic experience ranges from concept development, product and graphics design to gallery curatorial practice, coordinating arts projects, participating in local and international art workshops, residencies and exhibitions. A recipient of the Parent residency grant in 2019, Nakitende has exhibited in Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, South Africa, Germany, France, Italy, and the United States. She has been a part of the Kampala Biennale, the East African Art Biennale, the KLA ART Festival, the Bayimba International Festival of the Arts, the LaBa! Street Art Festival, the Nyege Nyege International Music Festival, the Nafasi Art Space, the 32° East Ugandan Arts Trust, the Afriart Gallery, the Makerere Art Gallery, the Uganda Museum, the Uganda National Cultural Centre, the Nommo Gallery, the Makerere University Art Gallery, the Makerere University Art School and the Makerere University Margaret Trowell School of Industrial and Fine Art.
